Preserving The Legacy of The Quarter Horse Industry
The Canadian Quarter Horse Association has a long-standing history of supporting, promoting, and protecting the Quarter Horse industry across Canada.
Through leadership, education, and community involvement, the association continues to serve horse owners while helping strengthen the future of the breed nationwide.
The Canadian Quarter Horse Stud Book
Once upon a time, there were two Quarter Horse registries: the one established in the United States in 1940, which continues to serve as the official registry today, and the one established in Canada in 1965 by the Canadian Quarter Horse Association.
The Canadian registry was eventually phased out as it became redundant, and the Canadian Quarter Horse Association's files with the Government of Canada's Canadian Livestock Registry were officially closed in 1988.
In 2012, former Canadian Quarter Horse Association Director Bill Holliday of Weyburn, Saskatchewan, acquired a physical copy of the first Canadian Quarter Horse Stud Book on behalf of the association, and AQHA later digitized this historical treasure for the Canadian Quarter Horse Association archives.
