The Canadian Quarter Horse Association Awards and Selections Committee presents an annual awards program recognizing outstanding individuals, breeders, horses, and industry leaders within the Canadian Quarter Horse community.

Award Categories

  • Canadian AQHA Ranch Horse Breeder of the Year
  • Canadian AQHA Performance Horse Breeder of the Year
  • Canadian AQHA Race Horse Breeder of the Year
  • Canadian AQHA Trainer of the Year
  • Canadian-Bred and/or Owned AQHA Registered Horse of the Year
  • Canadian AQHA Amateur of the Year
  • Canadian AQHA Youth of the Year
  • Canadian Youth Rising Star Award
  • Canadian AQHA Industry Leadership & Development Award (The Doris Heintz Award)

The Canadian Quarter Horse Association Awards and Selections Committee is made up of directors from across Canada who review nominations and evaluate eligibility requirements.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Nominees must be AQHA members in good standing for a minimum of five years (excluding youth awards).
  • Nominees must be current members of the Canadian Quarter Horse Association.
  • Nominators must also be current members of the Canadian Quarter Horse Association.
  • Nominations for deceased individuals may use their previous AQHA membership number.
  • Horses must be AQHA registered, and registration papers must be included with nominations.
  • People award nominations must include two letters of reference with contact information.
  • Trainer and Breeder of the Year nominees must be Canadian residents operating primarily in Canada.
  • Nominee photos must be submitted with the nomination form.
  • Supporting documentation may include official records, testimonials, biographies, accomplishments, and award histories.
